How much difference does the CPU cache make generally?
Reason i ask is, how much difference would you notice in games between the Q9300 and Q9450, or even including the E8400 which has 6MB similar to the 9300?

I can't see 12mb being any better than 6mb for games. The E21x0 range aren't crippled in games with their 1mb.

Things like video editing might see a benefit, but not that much.

There's an article on toms hardware about cache size compared at the same speed CPU (2.4 gig)

The cpus are

E2160
E4400
X6800

there is a difference in them at the same speed but for gaming its about 2 frames on COD 2, 10 frames for prey & 15 frames for Quake IV, all are not new games so newer games could very well be coded to take advantage.

On a lot of benchmarks i've seen it never seems to be more than 5-7% ish. I know your looking at the q9300.

I saw a bench of the q9650 with the q9300 listed and the gains in gaming and other apps seemed perfectly in line with clock speed. Cache seemed to play very, very little role in the results between the two.
