Not sure if this is posted in right section (maybe it should be in the motherboard section?) but I recently changed my CPU from a single core to a dual core and now the USB ports do not work. I have checked the bios, etc and all is how it should be. I can only presume I shorted something while changing over the CPU and now the motherboard is done for..

I did not check fpr CPU support but everything else works and it shows up in bios, the cpu that is.

I have reset CMOS but have not updated the bios yet

Ah, then usually with the case of branded PCs the CPU is generally low I find, and BIOS updates tend to be very slow as they don't expect the user to upgrade the PC. I would try see if the PC does support the new CPU, if not then just refund the new CPU and save up for a new CPU/MB/RAM/OS combo.

Check any connectors for the front panel USB ports, these will be at the bottom of the motherboard usually, and look something like the following:

Although occasionally they don't have the surrounding plastic, and consist of just the pins.

Have you tried other USB devices? Checked that USB is enabled in the BIOS if possible?

I would try a CMOS reset as well.

I have tried a keyboard, a mouse, a remote receiver, a USB mem stick and a USB HDD in all of the ports and I get nothing.

I have check bios and USB is enabled

I have also reset the CMOS

I shall just buy a PCI to USB card

Thanks for the help Guys :)
