I am in great doubt which I should choose between the AMD x4 955 and an asus crosshair iv Formula or the Intel i5 750 and evga P55 ***?? from some reviews I found the i5 is better then the amd in some marginally and in some more than marginally. the main use of my system will be 3d rendering, graphic design and such staff (using adobe suite, 3ds max, cinema 4d and so on). Help greatly apreciated :)

a good mobo that allows lots of lots of ram running in as many channel modes as possible -
cpu wise theyre both do the job but the above is more important

what do you mean by a mobo that allows as many channels as possible? isn't triple channel the max you can till now or am I getting you wrong?

and I always thought that for rendering you need mostly cpu power more than anything else?

Check the info on whichever motherboard you are interested in...it will clearly say so. Some don't.

only the expensive ones! and only 2 sata 3 ports, where the asus crossfire iv supports 6 sata 3 :/

seems like the p55 mobos are already quite outdated!

For that use you might be better of with a less pricey AMD mobo and using the saved cash to opt for the hex-core 1055t.

Yeh, Intel CPUs/MOBOs are more exspensive than AMD's for comparitively the same thing/features pretty much.

As suggested, a good AMD mobo and the 1055t hexcore would probably not disappoint, and the hexcore also comes in at practically the same price as an i5 quad.

quad channel -
im sure i saw 2 triple channels on a mobo aswell maybe i was dreaming

yea the cpu set ups you mentioned were fine you prob mentioned those because of your budget so for future youre only upgrading on ram - saves you moonies

yeah I was actually thinking about a hex core, but I thought that it may be better to have a good motherboard an be future proof (apart that I need good overclocking capabilities) and than keep the CPU and RAM as possible future upgrades (knowing that I have a solid base motherboard)

ah yeah I may be wrong dw hehe, in fact the x58 6 DIMM slots motherboards support 2 triple channel coming to think of it

Your right if your rendering you need a Decent Grpahics card and its the Processor that does the caculations to make the picture then the GPU renders it onto your screen, RAM is only really needed for the applications and the file you have open for instance
