Seeing as ive been told me CPU is dead im in need of a new one, It must be a socket 775 one, and under £100 if possibe also need a new cooler included in price.

Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR
RAM is Geil 4GB 6400
GFX is XFX 8800 GTX XXX

Many Thanks.

Had an engineer look at it, and couldn't find any faults with the rest of the system, read through my previous posts and tell me what you think? Told me the only things he could test really were the Mobo and CPU but seeing as the mobo is brand new can't really see there a problem with it. What sort of cooler would you recommend?

i would go for the e5300 and the titan fenrir cooler, which is excellent and will allow a decent bit of overclocking. All for under £90.

Hey Firmy,

Who was this Engineer who tested your chip, as the others have said it's pretty hard to kill a processor. A chap called Peanut made a similar post to yours a few months ago, he had been told by a technician at his local computer shop the chip was dead so I got Peanut to send me the supposed dead chip and it worked fine! :)

I would recommend you find someone with a LGA775 system that will test your chip before you pay out good money only to find out the problem is still there!

If the chip is actually truly dead and you need a new one then look no further than a Intel® Pentium® Dual Core E6300http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLGU9 as its slightly better than the older E5200/E5300/E5400.

Deffo get the older chip tested first by an overclocker before you purchase a new one! :cool:

Hey Wayne....
Thanks for the reply, well i took it too the local pc repair shop to see what the problem was, and he told me that he checked the rest of the system, except for the mobo and CPU as he couldn't test them, as the Mobo is about a week old, i doubt that, the mobo is the fault here, so that why im guessing the CPU. cut a long story short, water tipped into my system making the pc shut off and i couldn't get it too start again. Insurance ppl told me that the mobo had died, so i replaced it with the Gigabyte one, and the problem still persists, so that why im thinking that its the CPU thats gone.

Any idea's?

Was looking at using the Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 2.93GHz, and just using the stock fan supplied for a while???

Is the e6300 rated at 1.83 GHz or 2.80Ghz as its different on other websites, or am i just reading it wrong?

There was a Core™2 Duo E6300 in 2006 which is different from the new 2009 Intel® Pentium® E6300,

Intel® Core™2 Duo E6300
7x266= 1862MHz (2MB 65nm Conroe)

Intel® Pentium® Dual Core E6300
10.5x266= 2793MHz (2MB 45nm Wolfdale)

I'm not sure why people are still recommending the older E5200/E5300/E5400? :confused:

No, i'm saying that people recommend it because of that. And the fact that it's a good tried and trusted chip. I'm agreeing with you. Also that OCUK don't actually stock the E6*** series.

Funds are lower than i previously thought, so being realistic ill be looking for the 5 series chipsets, would the 5400 be best suited to my needs? Hopefully a little bit of overclocking will get any of these to 3GHz Pref?

I think ill go for the Newer E6300 then, as it seems a better chip, hopefully will be able to get it over 3GHz with a little push?
An E6300 will run at 3.33GHz using standard voltages on an average motherboard and using the retail cooler on quiet mode . . .

My choice would also be the extra for the E6300. However if you just can not raise the funds in the timescale then I think the E5300 seems a decent offering. Then pick up the Arctic freezer pro v2 for £20. Then your done for £70. But again i would stretch and look at something slightly better. But your in need of it quickly so its your choice mate.

first off, its entirely possible to get a new motherboard which is Dead or somehow otherwise defective.

secondly, i work for insurance companies, i have to inspect machines just like yours, water very rarely seems to get into the CPU but it is possible, highly likely it got into the psu/gpu though.
im wondering why you didnt simply claim on the insurance if you have it?
