Had my freezer extreme for a while now cooling my q9550 @3.4ghz and to be honest ive never been impressed with its performance since day one.

All four cores idle around 40-45'c and 58-63 during prime.

Would you guys be happy with this?

If anyone with the same CPU and a different cooler could post some advice and there temps up would be appreciated.

Cheers

Matt

Id highy reccomend a thermalright, either the venomous x, or the older Thermalright ultra extreme. There are newer slightly better coolers such as the massive Noctua NHD14, but it can interfere with board heatsinks. I used the TRUE on the p5q deluxe board, which has a similair heatsink arrangement as the p5qe, and can verify that it fits without interfering with the chipset heatsinks or the ram slots. Used to use a freezer prior to the ultra on a q6600, wasnt a bad cooler but i wanted to overclock a bit more but temps were holding me back.

Theres a new thermalright silver arrow coming out and its meant to top even the DH14. I think its going to retail at about £15 less as well.

Hello MattHep :)

What's the problem exactly? :D

If 3.4GHz is a good clock for you then everything looks fine to me, do you run any games or applications? . . . do they manage to heat up the cores to 63°C even?

Are you wanting to overclock some more or are you stuck with DDR2-800? . . . Are you wanting to spend some money ££ on a new cooler per chance? ;)

Well to be totally honest to you all I just want to waste some money on a few mods for my system.

I'm looking at a nice new shiny SSD drive which I think is a good investment.

Also better case cooling as I'm still using the standard Lian Li fans I got with the case.

So while I'm browsing on here would I benefit at all by replacing the fans with something else?

I will be looking at going for 3.8Ghz but as above looking to improve case cooling/GPU & CPU.

Oh yes....and some RAM, maybe a Christmas present. :P

Your temps at the minute arent too bad, but a new cooler may give you more headroom if you raise your overclock. Better case fans will always help, i know from experience that stock Lian Li fans arent that good. An ssd will be a very good investment, something im seriously considering as well.

Your temps are fine mate. As long as you dont really go over 70c for long periods. I use the venomousX, with twin viper fans in push pull and max out @ 65c on core 1 & 2.

Ok thanks for the advice on the temps, happy you have all agreed there fine. I am definitely going to purchase some 120mm fans for the case and a controller?
