Okay, so I'm looking to overclock my i5 once I get the funds for a new cooler as I think two months is a good enough period to say that I now have a stable system.

At the moment, I'm on the stock Intel cooler and it reaches about 65c max under full load (2.8GHz, as turboboost kicks in). Obviously I don't want to touch the overclocking options in the bios with the stock cooler, so I'm looking for something cheap and cheerful. Pretty much found what I want, just need some general opinions.

Currently have this in mind; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-028-CM
With this fan added on for a push/pull setup; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-002-FD

Would this suffice for a modest overclock? I'm not looking for 4GHz+, probably max 3.4ish, 3.6 at a big push. If not, any other suggestions? Really don't want anything with a backplate, as my case is such a mess it would take all day to do it. Would only spend that much time doing it if it was a proper cooler going for a much bigger overclock, which I'm not. And the last time I installed a heatsink that took effort, I killed the mobo in the process. :P So just something nice and simple would suffice.

Was also looking at a fan controller, as the top side fan sounds like a jet engine at the moment, and when I'm not gaming it's much too noticeable. Got my heart set on this; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BB-003-SY because it looks awesome. :D Anyone have any experiences with it? Good/bad?

Thanks. :)

How much are you looking to spend?

I've heard good things about the Gelid Tranquillo: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD&tool=3 Perhaps more than you are willing to spend.

But from what I can see online the TX3 you have your eye on looks perfectly good for the mild overclock you are suggesting.

And as far as I can remember, I think turboboost overclocks the i5 to about 3.2 anyway on demand. Food for thought

About £20, but something without a backplate for now.

Will probably go ahead with the TX3, aslong as it does a mild overclock, I'll be happy. (:
