CPU cooler fan needs replacing, considering putting two on it instead.

Ty for the reply, and swift too. I am really not looking forward to this. Better than kicking my tower every 10 minutes though (except when music/games/tv).
 
It'll work, but not efficiently.

AF fans aren't designed to be used in applications where flow is significantly restricted such as heatsinks & radiators.

The better choice would be the SP variant.
 
You don't need to understand too much about it beyond..

AF - Airflow are comparatively low pressure fans for shifting air when the mounting is unrestricted, like on a case fan spot or in free air.

SP - Static Pressure are comparitively high pressure fans for use where the mounting is restricted, like on a heatsink or radiator. The fewer, larger blades are more effective at punching airflow through a restriction as the airflow is effectively stronger.

Two fans gives very little increase in cooling ability. A bigger, more effective heatsink or better single fan would be better, especially if noise is a concern to you.
 
The 212 EVO is able to take 140mm fans that have 120mm mounting holes so if you don't have any RAM clearance issues, get some Thermalright TY-147s. Cheap, quiet and superb performance.

There are very few applications that are unrestricted / in free air. Even a case grill is restrictive.. and a case grill with filter is even more restrictive.

I always use fans with decent static pressure ratings. Airflow is normal open air flow, like blowing air on yourself on a hot day. I think of static pressure as reserve airflow for when there is added resistance. Like a high powered car; we don't need the4 power at 60mph but sure is nice when climbing steep hills or making a fast pass of slower traffic. :D
 
In my current set up, there is(should be :P) a case fan (exhaust) and then about 8cm from that is the fan on the evo 212 adjacent to the cooler, that is to say air sucked over the heatsink directly into another fan. I built the computer 6-7 years ago when the i7 920 was 1 month old but i've since forgotten a lot as there was no need to refresh the knowledge, here is a pic:

EDIT:

Seems the corsair fans were the case fans but I never installed them (I had a themaltake armor(in which I had my previous computer for 3 years too) until I switched to coolermaster 3 years ago).

I am certain they are the source of the vibration as I placed a pencil on the centre of the fan and gently stopped it and the problem went away.

EDIT2: Ill go dig up the spare fan brackets for the cooler.

I've dug up the original box for the Hyper 212 evo cooler (cooler master) and it has the fan specs on the side, but I have been unable to locate a cooler master fan with the same spec, strangely the newer models of the cooler appear to have the same or better fan in their specs and they look the same in the pics, and those coolers all support 2 fans but come with one. Yet nowhere can I find that same fan on sale.
 
Ok, I took the fan out of the computer and blew it out with an air compressor. The rattling has not gone away. I cannot find a similar fan on sale by cooler master. I am considering getting a new cooler, very frustrated.
 
an akasa apache fan would fit think it comes with some rubber fan mounts idk if they would attach to that cooler

also tried the fan on the other side of the heatsink so it pushes air towards rear of case rather than pull?

I've done that now(yesterday). There is no improvement, I dont understand why the company would continue to manfacture these coolers and not make the fans available. :S

I am not sure if the fan mounts can be separated from the fan. I recall it came with spares, cant find those either though.
 
You don't need to use the same fan on the cooler. Any manufacturers fan will do the job. In my experience Coolermasters 120mm fans haven't been that good anyway. You have had a couple of fan suggestions already in this thread so why not try one of those?

Sorry can't ignore it. Please tidy those cables and get rid of all that dust. :D:p:D
