Hi Guys

I'm rebuilding an old PC to give to a friend but i wanted to use something other than the stock cooler so that it's quiet. I wanted something similar to an AC Freezer 7 but cant find one with a 478 socket! Did there used to be one?

After that i guess i'm looking at the Scythe Mini Ninja or the Zalman CNPS7500. I would prefer something that doesnt need a backplate ideally and sub £20, any recommendations? Might just have to keep my eye on the members market but really wanted to build it this wknd as I have time.

TIA

Well i got the mini ninja at the wknd. Have to really force it to fit the clips on the skt 478 but once on it is very secure and works well. Surprised by just how big it is as a mini cooler (same height as gfx card), should probably have gone for one of the old style zalman ones for lower profile but nevermind.

Temps P4 2.6GHz @ 60% fan speed (silent) on push:

46ºC idle
56ºC load (prime 95) (only goes above 60ºC if i unplug the fan)

Cant believe how much heat the 9800 pro spews out! Has an IceQ cooler with a low/high fan switch on the back and when on low the thing is really hot to touch at idle and under load (atitool artifact scan) heatsink fins get too hot to touch for longer than a second  No temp sensor on it tho so couldnt tell you what the core is doing. It survived 1.5hrs running prime95 and atitool artifact scan simultaneously and i'm happy to call that safe for general everyday use :D
