CPU cooler height restriction

Hi all,

My friend has a Silverstone SG01-Evolution case and is looking to buy an aftermarket CPU cooler to unlock some overclocking potential from his system. The problem is that the case is limiting in how high the coolers can be. The Silverstone website states that the "CPU cooler cannot exceed 82mm in height".

Silverstone themselves make a cooler - SilverStone NT06-E CPU Heatsink. I found a review of this at:

http://www.3dgameman.com/content/view/13158/36/1/5/

..the last line in the conclusion section says "being small you can't have as many heatpipes and fins as some of the massive cooler that are on the market. This is clearly not a heatsink for anyone intending in overclocking, rather a heatsink for small places at stock speeds." Bummer. However, I believe this was reviewed in stock state - without the optional 120mm fan attached to it. Presumably, with the fan the effectiveness of this cooler would increase, but still, this is not a confidence inspiring review!

Does anyone have any experience of using the NT06-E with the fan attached? Equally, can anyone suggest an alternative cooler that would meet the maximum 82mm height restriction.

If anyone can offer any suggestions, it would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I've been reading around a bit more on this. There is talk that the cooler is designed to be used fan-less in the Silverstone case, and the coller's fans line up with the PSU's exhaust fan - meaning the PSU takes care of exhausting the warm air from the case. Would this be effective?

Would it be possible to mount a fan on the underside of this cooler possibly? This is driving me mad. :)
