Hi guys

I’ve just installed a new motherboard and CPU. Major noob but if you don’t try you Don’t learn right. Anyway I fitted the board and cpu and have fitted back my Corsair cpu cooler back on to the CPU. It has 3 wires 1 main one which has a 4 pin connector and 2 others which are 3 pin connectors. of which I fitted in the following way -

The main 4 connector was put on the 4 black pin under the 4 pin white connector on the board labelled cpu fan and cpu opt. I’ve got a feeling placing it underneath the white one may have put it on the cpu opt connector which is probably not right.

I then put the other 2 connectors which are 3 pin on the cha fan 1 and cha fan 2 pins on the board. The lead coming directly off the cpu cooler on top of the cpu was put on cha fan 2. With the pins on the board being 4 I put the 3 connectors on these leaving 1 pin to the left standing alone.

When I turned on the pc the cooler was really loud and was in full spin cycle and I got a CPU fan error on the screen.

Any help would be brilliant.

Thank you

Yes you can I did it on my last motherboard and cpu. More of the issue is the CPU fan error and me not knowing if I have the connectors on the correct pins :D.

The only time I ever had that issue, was when I had some crappy asus software installed , you can always use the eye method ie is the fan spinning when you look at it, and also check your CPU temps :)

Is it an asus Mobo you have ?

What readings is the BIOS giving you of the fan speeds?

And I'm guessing its an AIO cooler, some of them don't like being PWM controlled and will make a lot of noise (my CM Seidon does this). So you have to go to voltage control.

Yeah it is an ASUS motherboard. I have just had a look round the internet and gathered that the lead coming off the cpu block On the cpu should be connected to the AIO_PUMP. The main lead should go onto the CPU_FAN connector. I’ve just got another rogue 3 pin lead where I’m not sure where it’s being placed on the motherboard?

Can't see your image.

Generally there will be several leads that are there as duplicates, for instance just carrying the fan RPM signal but not actually carrying power to the fan.

The CPU fan error is because nothing is plugged into the CPU_FAN header, so the motherboard thinks the CPU fan isn't spinning. You can disable the alert in BIOS. I'd read the manual for your cooler.

How many wires are on each plug?

Have taken the liberty to post his pic for him.

What is the cooler you are using?
Looks to be the H80, but the cables look different to what i have seen online.
