i was watching a dvd on the media centre when there was a bump and the case started to buzz. when i opened it up i found me Scythe Samurai ZZ have some how lost a fan blade,
where would i stand on RMA'ing something like that? would it be more fuss that its worth?

the cooler is only 13days old and as been doing a very good job so if i didnt RMA it i would get a new one.

I'd RMA it, you'll have reduced airflow and the fans lifespan will be massively reduced with it being so unbalanced.

Personally I would just get a new fan as the hassle of removing the heatsink and being without during the RMA wouldnt appeal to me.

Saying that though a good HTPC with the right heatsink shouldnt need a fan on it. My HTPC (G620 in an Antec Fusion Max) has no fan on the heatsink (Thermalright SI-128) and just relies on the 120mm rear and 140mm side fans to extract heat and are located near the heatsink so pull air through the case and other the heatsink. Temps average idle at about 25c, are 30-35c during normal operation and max out at about 45c.

i had a similar issue with a nzxt case fan.
i contacted their rma dept. and sent them a photo of the fan with the missing blade. I mentioned that the price of sending the case back to them would be crazy and would they just send a replacement fan.
They sent me a new fan. :)

I would contact their rma, show them a pic and they just might send you a fan without having to send the whole cooler back.

I would do this first too, failing that and if they want the whole cooler I'd just stump up for another fan. Saying that I for some reason have 11 spare 120mm fans  really need to stop thinking "that fan looks good, lets try it"

@OP, if it comes to it give me a shout via trust, I'm sure I can give you a good price if its of interest :)
