Afternoon.
I am looking to move and AMD FX 8320e chip and board into my Silverstone Grandia GD08 case as I am upgrading my Plex server and will need to change my CPU cooler as the current Hyper 212X is too large to fit in the case at at 158mm.

The Silverstone website states a max CPU cooler height of 138mm, so I am looking for recommendations for coolers to fit?

Thanks in advance.

Could you tell us how much you are willing to pay? Is it safe to assume you want quiet cooling?

Alpenfohn Atlas is a very good cooler for £39.95 and is 125mm tall. It's rated 200w TDP and your 8320e is 95w TDP, meaning cooler does not have to spin it's fans fast to keep thngs cool .. assuming case airflow is supplying cooler with cool air. ;)

I used to have that case and used as a HTTP sort of thing ;0.

I managed to fit an Arctic Cooling Freezer 33, which is stated as being 140mm height. There are a couple of lower profile coolers though from the likes of be quiet and noctua if you are looking for something smaller: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/be-quiet-shadow-rock-tf-2-cpu-cooler-135mm-hs-019-bq.html and https://www.overclockers.co.uk/noctua-nh-c14s-top-flow-flexible-cpu-cooler-140mm-hs-030-nc.html

I don't like those flat / downflow coolers because in most case the venting flows air at a 90 degree angle to what cooler is .. and cooler pushing air toward motherboard means it's heated exhaust turns when it hits motherboard and goes in all directions until it hits RAM, GPU, etc and turns up alongside of cooler where cooler's fan pulls much of it back into cooler dramatically raising air temp into cooler .. and we know that ever degree warmer the air into cooler is translates into almost exactly the same amount of degrees hotter component is. ;)

Back in the day when the only coolers available were pancakes some cases actually had intake vent ducts from case to cooler to supply them with cool air.

I've forun these type of coolers usually give lower CPU temps with fan pulling air out of them instead of pushing air in.
