I'm still tweaking the in's and out's of the rig I want, and decided to take a look at the CPU cooler i'd chosen.

I picked the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro simply on reputation, but realised that i'm going for a nice look to my rig aswell as power, then I noticed this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... AL CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775) with it's nice blue LEDs (I'm getting the Antec 1200 loaded with blue LEDs, and the shape of the cooler just appeals to me.)

My mobo will be the Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775), and I just wondered if there's anything I should know about this cooler? I've not heard much about Asus coolers (I'd take the Zalman, but there's not one with blue LEDs)

Edit. Oh yeah, i'll be getting the Q6600, and i'm considering overclocking it to 3ghz (I've never overclocked before, but from OC it's guaranteed to overclock to 3ghz, and general opinion is that it increases gaming speeds dramatically)

At that price I would stump up the extra few quid and go for the Thermalright TRUE Black 120 CPU Cooler, while its still on offer. Soo much better cooler for overclocking your CPU ;)
 
Is it really big? Basically, I want my PC glowing so blue that aircraft overhead might mistake it for a landing tower. I've heard that many of the big CPU Coolers are so big that even in the 1200 it means that putting a 120mm fan on the side panel is out of the question, which in this case would mean the Asus is more favourable due to it's lovely blue LEDs :)
 
Id personally go for the TRUE black. Using one on my Q6600 @3.6ghz, 1.4v. Temps of 56-56-51-50.

^Iirc you went the 'lap it' route and knocked about 5c off each core temp, which seems about right since my temps are about 59/59/54/54 under maximum load.

Yep lapping certainly helped in my case, back in early september when it was a bit warmer. I ran p95 for over 8 hours and my temps were hitting 68-68-62-62, managed to drop them to what they are now with a combination of, cooler ambient temps, lapping cooler and cpu and new 2000 rpm fans on the cooler along with getting my vcore down from 1.4125 to 1.400
 
Lapping basically means sandpapering the surface of the cpu/base of cooler. Often theese will be uneven and by using various grades of sandpaper they can be leveled of. This coupled with the thermal paste leads to better contact between the two surfaces, thereby (but its not guaranteed) decreasing of temperatures. It may also help to even the temps across the cpu cores, but in my situation this wasnt the case.
 
i had a silent knight 2 AL and its a decent enough cooler, will get better temps using any of the ones stated above but it wont look as good :)
