Hey all, managed to build my first rig (i5 in an sugo case)

Should have listened to your advice as the stock cooler is not only annoyingly buzzy, but also doesn't really do a good job at all.

Are there any decent cooling options to be had for the 80-85mm of space left in the case?

Also, the graphics card blocks air circulation to the two case fans, so they're kind of redundant, and only add to the noise :P.

Might post some build pics when I can be bothered connecting my phone to the PC.

Cheers!

Hi ,

I did the exact same build with the i7 and the SG02 case. It was really hot temps. Especially with a 4870 making things hotter. Problem is you cant get a decent cooler in there. The warm air just seems to get trapped around the CPU area rasiing the temps to silly levels. The case does not allow a decent sized fan to be mounted to extract either. Since the i5 is a lower TDP im hoping its not the case for you and you can find a work around.

I lost patients in the end and moved back to a tower case and my build is running lovely now. The case is going to be my next HTPC. :p

What are your current temps. I think i was getting 50 across all cores i7 920 stock and speed step enabled. lol !!

Haha, on stock speeds doing nothing at all, it will idle at 30, when you actually start doing stuff, straight up to 45-50, then with antivirus and a few other things going you're into the 60's.

What is the maximum safe temperature for this CPU anyway? I heard it was like 72 - and that's almost been reached. I ran Prime95 and then started to get a bit scared when it was topping 60 :P

Hi WSS , :D

That is not really that bad. Idle 30's is very acceptable. That sounds about right though when doing anything strenuous. Although seemingly hot the i5 and i7 have a 100deg tmax. So i would say anything sub 85degs is acceptable/safe on extreme full load.

You found a cooler yet that interests you. ??

Oh really? That seems okay then.

What I want really is the noise reduced, i've read really off-putting reviews of the NT06 Lite though....so basically I'm in need of a cooler with a larger fan that will fit in the 80mm of space I have in the case.

Wow. Impressive that they managed to shoehorn the H50 into a Sugo case. Might have to see if I can try that...

Well, he said he had one before that split whilst he was moving it around so i'm gonna be extra cautious :P Amazing that he fit it in though, yeah :)
