CPU Cooling fans

in your opinions which are better..

fans that face towards the cpu and cool heatsinks directly down towards the cpu or fans that cool heatinks that are place on top of cpu. (hard to explain)

Depends which cooler tbh. For instance you have the Big Typhoon, which is a top down cooler like your first example, and it cools pretty well.

Then you have things like the Scythes, Tuniq Towers and the Titans.

I think theres just more of the latter.

just im looking for a new cpu fan as i dont think my current one is working to best of its abilities and wondering what type to get then what to actually get.

The tower coolers all seem to perform better than the blow-down type coolers, all the current top coolers are tower types.

The only problem with tower coolers is you often have to devise alternative component and chipset cooling as there is very little airflow over other components.
