Hi all,

I'm building a pc for a friend, an i7 system, and I have initialy specced a corsair H50 cooler, mainly because its generally regarded as a decent cooler... and a plug 'n' play water cooler is a cool idea... but there is a thorn in my side...

The more I read, the more I don't like, mainly the backwards airflow on the rad which severely limits mounting options (the case we have in mind does not have a blow hole at the top.) Lian Li PC-A71FB.

So this would complicate the airflow somewhat.

So now I am thinking a Noctua or or a TRU air cooler with some 3rd party fans if needed. the main priority is low noise over performance but im out of touch with aircoolers since the TRU120 Vs Tuniq120 days.

Any thoughts?

Just to add, custom WC is just too much hastle, as it wont be clocked to a level that would warrant it anyway, and it needs to me maintenace free really.

I use a TRUE in the A70F case (same internally as A71F), fits grand as theres masses of room to spare. Currently running a pair of arctic cooling F12 pwm fans on the cooler, at 4ghz the max temp on my i7 is 76c.

On the A70F/71F there are 2 rear case fans, one is visible behind the cpu cooler, the other is directly above, hidden by the top rear hdd bay.

Ahh, coolio. :D was it much hastle to rig both pwm fans to the cpufan header? or do you use a controller?

I have one of theese to run both fans via pwm.

But, for some strange reason it doesnt seem to work, unlike the previous sharkoon silent eagle se fans i had. The good thing though with the current arctic fans is that i can daisy chain them and power both from the cpu header, this will mean i can do away with the akasa cable. Just havent got round to changing them over.

Awesome, thanks, just need to pick a heatsink now, lol:D

Just looking at your case there, its bloody huge! lol! i thought mine was big!
may have to re-think and go for a slightly smaller lian! lol

In fairness to the H50 it performs as well as high end air coolers do while taking up less space. The drawback of potential leaks and pump vibration puts me right off, but that doesn't make it a bad product as such.

But yeah, I'd always go for a heatsink. Much like setter I'm very fond of the TRUE. Bit of a shame mine's now sitting on a shelf, it doesn't seem to have any second hand value and I imagine I'm on watercooling forever.

Pretty much my feelings mate, the h20 is funky and cute, but im struggling to justfy it..
