Little high - little low
Hi.
I just ran OCCT and it informed me one of my CPU cores went 1 degree over it's max - 85 instead of 84!
Could this mean the thermal paste needs replacing? If not this then what?
The CPU cooler is a massive push/pull double fan and I am running just under 4GHz OC with i7 920 on a Gigabyte EX58-UD5.
Core #0=83 #1=85 #2=83 #3=83
Thanks

84 isnt the max on an i7 920, whats your cooler and voltage for the 4ghz oc? Is the cooler clean and free of dust etc, and are you using auto voltage for the oc?

The cooler is a Noctua NH-U12P Dual Fan

The CoreV is 1.3250v. Don't know about the dust but it was given a good clean a while ago (1yr+ perhaps).

With regard to the max T° I was only quoting from what the OCCT reported. The 4 cores start about 65° then with OCCT running climb gradually to late 70°'s after 3mins, levelling out about 83° average at 10mins.

Although OCCT was set to run for 1hr (I am unable to adjust the time as the box is greyed out), when I came back the results were up so I "think" maybe the rig crashed after the 10mins run-time and when I came back it had re-booted, but I could be wrong.

What concerned me was the fact that one core was a bit hotter than the other 3. Normal?
I have thought about water several times but until recently the rig was stable. I only arrived at these problems with a new SSD for Chrimbo ;)
After imaging/fitting the SSD my BIOS refused to let me enable AHCI. Flashed for the newer F12 from F7 and that was now OK but then had a problem finding my original OC settings.
I think I am there now and decided to run OCCT and the rest you know.

I'm monitoring with OCCT now and the temp is 49/50° no load. CPU V is shown as 1.26v which I think is the factory setting of the board.

Ah, I just found in the Monitoring Options it states "Stop testing if the value is above (85° for the Core's)), so that accounts for the 10min run-time.
