CPU Cores for VR

Looking to upgrade from my 7700k over the next few months and have been looking at 5600x/ 5800x

Do you think that VR benefits from extra cores as it has to run steamvr/ oculus in the background.

VR games seem to be a bit more CPU intensive than pancake (WS S&S, Boneworks, Asgards) so do you think it would be best to go 8 core (despite all the youtube advice) as it seems the 5600x does pretty much everything anyway.

Pairing with 3090.

3090 is bottlenecked even at high resolutions.

Go for the fastest, most powerful CPU you can. 5800x would be the minimum CPU I would pair with the 3090.

Currently running 6700k with a 3090 as I'm still waiting for my 5900x to arrive (109 in the queue atm and quite frankly can't wait!).

Apart from being able to increase the usual supersampling etc, I still get patchy performance and frame skips etc due to the 6700k. ETS2 is especially bad at this with stuttering galore but I'm also getting stutter in Borderlands 2 VR which isn't the most demanding game. It's not just VR games that are bottlenecked to kingdom come, I experience skips etc in most other games although they run smooth at 4k maxxed out for the most part and its certainly down to the 6700k being choked.

I stream VR games on occasion as well as normal pancake games, so I want all the power I can get!

One of my mates is running a 1660 Super paired with a 3600x and his gameplay and streams (both pancake and VR), are far smoother than mine, those extra cores are certainly doing something worthwhile.

The truth is 4c/8t cpus just don't cut it anymore.
