Any chance the below CPU could still run?

Hard to say, depends what else happened to the cpu - try it and see what happens is the only real test.

Is the damage in question the crack bottom left?

If it is i would hazard at yes as it's not touched any pin connects or anything below IHS mainly looks like blank pcb

Did it fry the pin connector on that corner, see opposite side (look right).

If so, if a pin connector is damaged, then it probably won't work properly.

Which CPU is it, exactly?

Might be a schematic out there that can tell us if it's an Earth or Power connector.

I'm looking to buy it on the bay, it's an i3 4160. I'm not too bothered if I get it cheap and it does not work just don't want to screw up my mobo.

Chip core is untouched (different CPU, but it's a good example of how it looks de-lidded), so all what might have been destroyed - it's a pin connection (if placed some strange way). It's exactly the same case if pins in CPU socket would be bent = does it screw up motherboard ? No. It should be safe to test CPU, and 99.99% CPU should work (if there's no more damage, of course, which are to be supposed looking at the CPU).

No matter what anyone says the only way to know is test it. TBF its a silly question its like photing a car and says what wrong with it

Those PCBs are multi layer with connections routed throughout. You may be lucky as the connections should be moving away from the corner towards the core.
