Hi

My PC don't sem to be working, the PSU working fine, the hard disk and cd/dvd drives working fine (well turning on), all i get is a blank screen, no beeps no nothing so i feel its the CPU.

Can i just change the CPU (i have one of the same socket spare), boot up and it will work?

Thanks in advance

No beeps? Sounds more like mobo to me.

Got the speaker plugged in and the right way round?

Was it previously giving a post beep?

I don't know why people suspect the cpu's to be the first problem. I don't know anyone who's had a cpu fail, or heard on any forum of a cpu failing.

Are you going to tell us the problem then?

I had an old celeron go "pop" on me a couple months ago :(
Agree with you that its rare though and it was the last thing i thought was at fault.

Changed everything else first to see what the problem was.

Lil' J if possible try a different psu/grahic card and ram to see what could be faulty.

ram would give off beeps, most things will give off post beeps a dead mobo wont a dead psu wont a dead gfx card hmmm probably doesnt that will generally be indicated by an led on the mobo. hard and optical drives wont ofcorse but they are loaded after post.

I had a problem when I built this system

P5K Premium
Q6600
OCZ 2GB PC2-6400
8800GT
Corsair HX520W

it wasn't posting at all, and no beeps.
So I took everything out and just ran it with CPU, mobo, PSU - beeps for no GPU.
I put the GPU in - beeps for no RAM.
I put RAM in - no beeps.
fiddled around putting the RAM in different slots, combinations of 1 stick, 2 sticks, no beeps.

Eventually I tried a friend's RAM and it was fine, I put mine in along side his and it was still fine, and the OCZ passed Memtest86 no problems.

It's now running fine alongside some Corsair PC2-6400 - so I have 4GB that works fine, just the OCZ stuff won't even post on it's own.

It happened to me, i was convinced it wasn't the CPU, so RMAd the Mobo, MemTest'd the RAM, and it still wouldn't work. Thankfully the retailers were kind enough to take the board back after i realised the CPU had popped and was going to upgrade it all...

Don't wanna splash out on a new motherboard for such an old pc, gonna try find one second hand, one thing i noticed on the cpu its says AMD 1.6 but when it boots it says 1.10 or summat like that, i bought these parts from a computer fair years ago i hope i wernt conned lol.

So yeah gonna try and get a motherboard
