I am not sure if my cpu i7 920 d0 stepping had died as when using full load prime95 blend test after 2 minutes, core 2 had stopped, after 6 minutes core 1 had stopped except core 3 and core 4 are still running using 4 cores, 4 threads at 4.2Ghz overclocking.

I am now scared and worried myself, wondering if my cpu had now dying ?

Wish I shouldn't overclock it as it big risky to the cpu. I never set vcore more than 1.300v since I brought the bundle myself. Very unhappy now :(

It look like my overclock is no longer in stable after ocuk (rich) had replaced my new motherboard (same board as before) as my old board cpu fan header isn't work anymore as Rich who kindly replaced me a new board yesterday at OCUK as a result to my RMA report.

I am now sad and disappointed as I can't believed my new board isn't stable as my old board. Look like I had to stayed as 2.66Ghz now (default with no overclock)

I had a simular problem with a q9550. I just clocked mine down and it worked. best thing to do, overclock your cpu bit by bit and use auto for all. it worked for me :P

Why stay at default? I'd hazard a guess that were you to enable Hyperthreading (why disable it?) then your CPU wouldn't have been stable on the old motherboard either.

You'd be better aiming for 4.0ghz with HT enabled rather than 4.2ghz without it, it's one of the key performance enhancing features of i7.

It appear that my cpu is now okay. Using 4Ghz overclock with 4 cores / 8 threads with HT enabled and done 3 hours full load prime95 blend test without any problem. (thanks god for that) Cos, I had updated firmware on the bios from F6 to F7 version and it now stable on the new board. :)

nyce to c ur cpu bak to lyf, and as said earlier, if evry1 else running i7 @ 4.2 or 4.0 doesnt mean i shud run mine @same clocks too , sumtimes u dnt get the golden chip :)
lyk few ppl r able to get AMD 955 @ 4.0 ghz and few were nt even stable @ 3.6 :(

A gunine request please mate if your going to reply please dont use text talk makes it very difficult for old farts to read :D

What are you talking about , I overclocked a q6600 to 3.4 on auto settings and was stable for 2 years. dont just dismiss something you have not tried.

I've had a few boards which have overvolted terribly with auto voltages, you're better off just finding the lowest stable voltages manually. :)

That is very annoying..

Not the never getting the clocks stable at 3.6GHz part, but the way you just typed everything in such an annoying way :(

My cpu is seem fine now. I just thought of killing off my cpu as I do have a spare i7 920 c0 cpu chip. I might have to sell it but I think no ones isn't interested on the old i7 920 c0 chip these days now.

you are not texting your mates you are on a forum!! (and yes im old!!)

and Bulldog you have only killed your CPU if it wont run at stock Intel dont guarantee overclocks, even though we know that the DO is very overclockable.
it seems strange,if you have changed nothing and its all of a sudden become unstable.
