Good morning,

I've recently purchased a pile of new hardware to build a PC.

  • MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk
  • AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D
  • Zotac RTX 4090 Trinity
  • 32GB Corsair Vengence RAM
  • Lian Li Galahad AIO 240mm water cooler
  • Corsair RM850X Power Supply
After building it, I'm seeing a red CPU light, and an orange DRAM light on the motherboard. I'd removed all the hardware from the case, and I'm running it on the tabletop.

For the ram problem, I've taken each stick of RAM out; visually checked it; tested each stick of ram in various slots. Same orange light appears on MOBO.

For the CPU; I've tried reseating the CPU, ensured the power cables are connected.

I'm not sure what else I can try here.. Could anyone suggest something?

If it's fauly hardware, would it be the CPU, Motherboard or RAM? Not sure how to proceed, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance!

How long did you wait for first boot as the memory training can take a few minutes.

Check motherboard CPU socket for bent pins and make sure you don't overtighten the CPU cooler.

Then Update the bios on the motherboard using bios flash button if the above doesn't work.

Resolved. Clearing cmos seemed to have done the trick. Powered on, cpu and ram lights were still on, but turned off, now have access to the bios.
Cheers mickyflinn!

ram should be installed in slots 2 and 4, your picture above shows the 1 ram stick in slot 1, and yeah lay the board down on the cardboard box the mainboard shipped in, dont use the antistatic bag, any charge build up will go into the board and could damgae a lot of stuff
