Having hell of a time with my PC at the moment in terms of continual crashes, BSODs and the like.

Having ruled out the mobo, graphics, HDDs, PSU, sound card and memory, it would seem it might be the CPU.

I ran Memtest a few weeks ago and the memory passed, but yesterday it didn't. Which leaves me to think that perhaps the CPU and memory are knackered.

What "symptoms" would I expect if it was the CPU that was kaput? Would it just not work or could it be intermittant?

Usually won't even POST tbh

Thought as much. just couldn't figure out why it was sometimes still failing on POSTing and other times not at all.

I'm pretty sure the OCZ PC8500 uses Micron D9 chips, and some of those are failing after just a few weeks.

If MemTest is throwing up errors at the memorys stock settings, it's time to RMA it.

That's what I'm gonna do - seem to have built myself a whole new system in the quest to find the problem though!

Don't know whether there can be problems with the memory that cause system instabilities before it becomes apparent in Memtest - it passed Memtest a couple of weeks ago whilst unstable.
