hey, i recently installed a new http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-AR

Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

So i got it all installed, but now the fan spins when the computer boots, comes up CPU Fan Error during post and it stops spinning? I have it plugged into the CPU fan header on the Motherboard, Wiped off the old Thermal Paste, Mounted CPU cooler screwed it in etc, I boot up and get as above a CPU Fan Error? Temps were idling around 29C but the moment i ran Prime 95 it shot to 50+ Degrees in seconds.

Currently using my brothers laptop as im scared to use my machine incase it fries :(

Please Help!

Thanks
Ross

if you are putting the stock cooler back on you should apply new thermal paste to it, and if you are sending the ac7 back then get something better as it really isn't a very good cooler with quad cpu's.

your temp of over 50c in prime with it is perfectly normal for a 3ghz + quad core.

Yes but not when the fan isnt spinning lol

What would you's suggest for around £15-20?

Im wondering if instead of going for something small like that now, if i just bear with stock and get a H70 eventually? Had a look on youtube and the TigerDirect/ComputerTV install dosn't look too hard.

The Smart Q Fan Funtion which i think is the PWM function on the Mobo? has always been enabled. And the AMD Stock cooler Speeds up and slows down as temperatures rise and fall, dosnt make any less noise when its slower mind you lol

This is true. I've used those coolers and the speed the report to the motherboard does fluctuate. They do the job though. Quiet, cheap, effective.

So if i leave the CPU Fan to Ignored and Smart Q off the arctic cooling freezer pro will control speeds itself?

Might try it again tommorow if this is the case.

No, Smart Q on, but fan speed ignored.

You should have a temp monitoring program running for a while. I'd suggest Core Temp as it'll keep a note of max and min temps. That way you can check it's actually doign the job.

I have Smart Q and fan ignored on, and the Freezer 7 is quiet and does the job. It's not a great cooler though, and it's cheap and nasty. But if you just want a reasonable cooling performance and silence then there's no need to spend more.

Ok, might remount it tommorow or later tonight.

Thanks

I have remounted the Artic Cooler, and it is still not Spinning, Smart Q on or off with Fan ignored. now idleing so far at 59C instead of <35C! but the fan still isnt spinning? In started spinning when i plugged it in but nothing after that. Could it be a Voltage problem? As i think the Smart Q voltage was set pretty low.

try sticking it on one of the sys fan connectors and see if it spins on that. or if you have a 3 pin to molex fan power adapter try that.

Ill try plugging it into the System Fan header, but the CPU header was working fine on the stock one :S

Thought i had a 4 to 3 but i dont. Still not spinning... Really cant be bothered reinstalling the Stock one again...

Make sure there is no obstruction stopping fins, not turning give fins a slight push it will begin to turn.

I did and there is nothing in there at all, Even tried spinning it myself and nada. It spins for 2-3 seconds on start up and thats it.

EDIT managed to get the fan out of the bracket thingmy and put it back in seems to be spinning fine now..

Temps seem to be returning to normal now.

Oopsy :S

Thanks
