I keep getting this CPU Fan as failed message on startup, if I go into the Bios, I can see that the fan speed is extremely low(300 RPM), but has soon as I start up Windows and check with Asus Prob it is back to normal speeds(1900 RPM)...

Could it be that the fan has dust on the inner mechanism and takes a little while to kick in? Faulty fan? BIOS gone a little weired?

Any suggestions on how best I check the fan?

Cheers

PS using a Freezer Pro and have cool and quite turned off in BIOS :)

When i had my Gigabyte K8NXP-SLi i used to get the fan fail warning sometimes and the cpu fan would be completely off, but only if i had set it to report fan failure in the bios. With the fan fail warning off the fan never stopped and worked fine. It was a bit strange and i ended up plugging the fan into the psu just in case.

It might just be some random thing like what i had. Plug the fan into the psu and see if it still stops running.

When I changed my fan for a quieter one, there was a note in the manual for it that this may happen as it detects the lower speed as a fault. Luckily never happened to me, but mabye thats what your getting

Im getting the same thing with a Tunic Tower, it happend when I chose DC for 3 pin cpus. As this only has 3 pins.
