I get this message on startup sometimes. The temps on the CPU are fine (idle 33, load about 60) so i know the fan is working ok. I've checked the connection to the motherboard too and it's definitely in the CPU fan thing not the case fan one.

Anyone had this issue and fixed it? It's irritating when i leave the computer for a min to boot up and then come back to find it's waiting for me to press F1

Perhaps the fan don't properly speed up straight at startup and the computer worries? Theres an option in BIOS to disable it :)

You could disable the "Wait on Error" option in the BIOS/EFI if you are sure it's working correctly. It may just be it takes some time for the CPU fan to get to speed, especially if it has a low rpm anyway. :)

sounds like your fans on its way out if you're getting that message - orrrr simply that your fan aint running faster enough which prompts that message

I'm guessing once you press F1 everything runs fine and normal? My old Asus board kept having this problem on every cold boot with every fan except for the stock AMD one. Solved it with this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-031-AK&groupid=1929&catid=153&subcat=

It allows the fan to get power directly from the PSU but still allows the board to control the fan speed. Must've been some problems powering the fan on boot which triggers the fan error.

Only time that I've ever had this, is when I've had the fan speed on the CPU set below some threshold that the BIOS has set. Even though temps are OK, it seems to like the fan spinning above a certain speed. Though for the life of me, I cant remember which mobo I had this "issue" with. Solution was to set the min fan speed a tad higher.
