Ok so my CPU fan seems to be randomly dying now. I have to turn my PC off when I go out as I have no idea whether it'll stop or not. If the fan was the issue would it keep dying randomly? If I leave my PC off for a while it works fine again. If I turn the PC back on after the fan has died it dies again after a few minutes. I don't have any games installed so I'm not exactly pushing my PC. It happens at random times like 8pm or so, or 3am when I'm sleeping. So does it sound like a dodgy fan or possibly something else? Oh, its a stock A64 fan.

This isn't good news mate!
I strongly would recommend buying a new CPU cooler, or fixxing the present one!
I hear the Arctic Cooler Freezer64 is very good! But it will void your warranty.
DO NOT CONTINUE USING YOUR PRESENT COOLER, UNLESS REPLACED OR FIXXED!

Let us know how you want to procced with the problem, and iam sure we can help abit.

Have you checked the bios to make sure everything is setup correctly?

Either the fan is bad, or it might be worth testing it on another motherboard, if the fan connector is playing up.

As far as I know the BIOS is fine. Never tweaked anything in there. I think I might see if I can connect the CPU fan to another connection on my board to see if its that. I don't really fancy splashing out on a new cooler if theres a bigger issue to be fixed.

My CPU fan was ******. Kept warning me of low spin speeds at boot up. I happened to update the bios in a thing of boredom and it now is working as it should. don't no if it was just faite but that worked for me. weird...

Right then. I got a Freezer64, much cooler now. Everything was going fine till last night. At about 2am my PC started making beeping noises. The fan speed had dropped 50%. Then about 5 mins later the fan died and Speedfan said it was doing 0rpm. So its not the fan causing the problem. Great.

Ok the last time it died I got some screenshots of Speedfan showing the volts and stuff. Any idea if this looks right/wrong?

The +5v and -12 and -5v's look stupidly low! Whereas the +12 and +3.3v's seem spot on.

What PSU/motherboard do you have? I've seen several boards where the CPU fan connector on the board has died.
