CPU fan making a lot of noise

I think my CPU fan is on its way out. Its just way to loud, sounds like a vacuum. So, I need a new one. But which one should I go for? It has to be silent. Looking to spend around 30 quid on a new one. Anything to stop the racket.

current cooler
- Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Intel approved cooler
- Arctic Silver 5 Heatsink

Any help would be great. Thanks. :D

I am just looking to replace the fan, not the heatsink too. Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll keep those in mind when I do replace the heatsink.

What fans would you suggest?

Ahhhhh, sorry. :(

When i saw £30 i naturally assumed a cooler!

For a fan i would say a 92mm (used a xilence zip tied onto my freezer 7 pro) and either choose xilence (cheap), sharkoon, scythe or with your monstrous budget even noctua.

Very nice - spotted the 120mm versions of those yesterday and am V tempted!

Let me know how you get on with it - i'd be interested to know how loud it is! :)

Hi. How exactly do I attach this fan to the heatsink? There doesn't seem to be any possible way of doing it. My artic fan that is on there right now just clips on, but this fan needs to be screwed in.

Help a nooby out. :(

The heatsink isn't designed with replacement fans in mind (why i thought you meant 'new heatsink' when you first mentioned spending up to £30) so other techniques are needed.

To install the Xilence fan i talked about above i simply looped a zip tie through the fan screw holes and around the heatpipes on the arctic cooler.

Not massively pretty but very secure and worked an absolute treat! :D

Are there any pictures of this? Just so I can see how its done. I thought of doing something like that but wasn't sure if it would fit correctly.

EDIT: Something like this?

You could always try a dab of glue? Are there any screws you could use, or even use a bit of wire to attach it?

I bought of those fans for siting in the CPU air intake tube. I ditched my CPU fan as the air intake pumps cold air directly in (Never goes above 30oC). I also got the dust filter too as my air vent is about a metre away from a coal fire and loads of coal dust used to get sucked in.

Im throughly impressed with it to be honest. Its barely audible.

One thing to check is whether the soft silicone fan mount between the 'original' clip on section and 'original' fan have the same hole layout as the screw holes on the Scythe fan.

If it does then you could try a silicone fan mount to secure it in place - would help isolate it too making it quieter still.

If not then i'd try the zip tie approach that i described.

As for the picture i'd say you could do a push/pull layout but you would need a fan guard fitted to the rear fan so the fan itself doesn't contact the fins on the rear of the cooler.

Installed the new fan and its super quiet! I can actually hear my other fans now. I might and just replace them all even though its about as quiet as my ps3 now.

I was thinking of replacing the other 3 more case fans. Which fans would you guys suggest?

These 3 fans I'd like to replace.

Also, how would I go about replacing the huge fan that is on the top of the case?
