CPU Fan pins?

Hi,

My current motherboard (AMD X2) has gone faulty, I have ordered a replacement Intel system.

I was planning on reusing my 120mm CPU fan on the Tuniq Tower I ordered but I was looking over the manual for the GA-P35-DS3L and the CPU fan looks like it requires 4 pins?

Can anyone confirm if a 3 pin fan will work ok in this? What is the extra wire for?
 
Yeah, 4-pin fan headers tend to fit 3-pin fans, as the notch is still where a 3-pin fan would be :)

Just using a 3-pin fan over the 4-pin fan you wouldn't have the PWM setting or whatever it is. No biggy though.

A lot of servers we do at work have 3-pin fans connected to 4-pin headers on the board, and these are chassis the manufacturer recommends with the board :)
