Hello,

My new (2 week old) build has just started (literally 10mins ago) running the CPU fan at 5200rpm (HWMonitor is claiming its 50% but I've never heard it so loud :p).
Happened after launching TF2, a game I've played numerous times since building the PC. After POSTing it's also gone straight to 5200rpm fan speed so I'm baffled.

Any ideas guys?

Specs:

Phenom II X4 955BE @ stock :(
Foxconn A7DA 3.0
4GB GeIL Value Plus 1600MHz RAM
HD6870
BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W PSU.

And some screenies, if of any use:

Thanks,
Cookeh

I didn't know fans actually went that fast! =/ What is your heatsink, and consequently what is the fan?

Does it sound like it's going that fast? If not then it's just a dodgy reading.

Its the stock Phenom II fan, so some dodgy little 80mm affair - will be getting aftermarket shortly.

Oh yes its going that fast! Screams louder than the HD6870 in Crysis xD

looks like a false reading, if it was spining that fast your temps would be much lower considering your shot shows your idle ;)

I find hardware monitor very flaky for some readings. Where it gets them I do not know.

Read my mind - that's precisely the cooler that's been sat in my basket for over a week :p Hoping for a drop in price in TWO or TO ;)

Will continue the colour code with my mobo as well

Whether it will go with a mix of blue (intake) and red (exhaust) fans is another matter
