This doesn't happen very often (probably twice now in a hundred or so start-ups) but when it does, the cpu fan doesn't kick in. The BIOS then shows an appropriate error and prevents further booting.
Both times that it has done this I have been able to start the fan by manually spinning it.
Is there a way to slightly increase the voltage sent to this fan?
Fan is a Scythe Flex 1200rpm fan attached to a scythe infinity cooler. At first the fan was just connected to the mobo cpu fan header (Asus P5W deluxe) , so my first thought was that it wasn't getting enough power. I now have the fan connected to both the cpu fan header and the fan power cable from the corsair 620w psu. but the second failure happened since I did this.
I'm obviously worried now about the fan failing while the machine is on which presumably would be bad for a core2duo running at 3.4GHz
