Okay, so I built my new comp a few days ago. Just wondering about this issue. I have the DS3 and am currently using the EasyTune software that came with the mobo to check the fans etc. What I've noticed is that every so often the fan's speed reading will drop to 0 for a second and then return to its previous speed. When idle the fan tends to stay around 400-500rpm otherwise.
Also, every time, when I first plug in the computer and switch it on, it will come on for half a second, turn off instantly, and then after about 5 seconds come back on again. Sometimes after this happens the fan will start to spin up and stop, then start to spin up and stop, and continue to do this even after windows has booted. After a reboot it will go back to normal.
Is this a problem? is it likely to be the motherboard? the fan itself? the software?
The software does claim that the processor runs at ~30C idle ~35C under load, while coretemp reads ~37C idle and ~50C w/ SP2004 Orthos.
I do wonder if the fan is running at a lower speed than it should be if it's estimating the temeratures wrong, or if it is based on CPU load rather than temperature. fan speed adjustment is currently set to whatever the default is in bios.
Specs:
C2D E6300 @ stock
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3
2 * 1GB Geil PC5300
Enermax Noisetaker 485W
Gigabyte 7900GT256
Super Lanboy
Thanks
