Hi,

I've got a machine to fix and the only problem seems to be a knackered cpu fan, I tried shoving one which i had lying around but the bios comes up saying 'CPU Fan not working properly', this fan is the wrong size and overlapped the heatsink a fair bit. If i get one for the correct socket will my motherboard be happy? Or do I have to get the original one?

Cheers

Either you've plugged the fan into the wrong header on the mobo or the replacement fan doesn't have RPM sensing or the fan is powered via molex, which 1 is it :)

If the fan is spinning then there might be a BIOS option to disable this message, there was in my old Asus P4P800E-Dlx mobo as I ran the HSF fan via a molex connector.

I plugged the fan into the same place i took the old one out of and it was off another motherboard so i assume it has rpm sensing...I took your advice and tried to have a look in the bios, but it wouldn't let me as far as the bios so I put the old one back on (which was just noisy and a touch intermittant) and now thats doing the same thing. I be stuckout of the bios, think i should get a new fan or....?

Thanks:D
