CPU fans that come with retention bracket

The fan retention bracket has snapped off my asus mobo, leaving me with no windows machine (my linux box lives on thank $DEITY).

OCUK are fully willing to RMA the board as failed, but warn it could take a while. In the meantime I have contacted Asus to see if they carry fan retainers as spares.

I was thinking however, that maybe the most effective solution would be to buy a kick ass fan that is a heavyweight and comes with a replacement bracket.

Can anyone speak up if they have a fan that came with an upgraded back bracket for the MOBO?


It's An Asus M2N32WSpro Socket AM2.

Do you mean a chipset fan? Just get a passive n/b cooler.

Sorry, I mean CPU fans.

I think the Asus Silent Knight may be the very chap, it seems to come with it's own back mounting plate, hope so, I'm ordering one tomorrow.

Basically, both Asus and OCUK are happy enough for me to RMA the whole motherboard, but they warn of up to 28 days turnaround, so for the sake of £50, I may as well buy a really good CPU fan that will replace my broken mounting while I'm at it.


In short, the Arctic I had (hardly an overly heavy fan, which I have used several times for other people), snapped off the upper clip from the motherboard's back bracket, and landed on my 8800GTS. Thankfully the machine still posts and has a VGA display, so the card is at least working at that level. It just shuts down after 10 secs cos of overheating.


Hopefully the siltent knight will do the trick.
