CPU for BF4

Hi guys,

It's time for an upgrade but I can't decide on which CPU I should get..
This is my current setup:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.8 [gelid tranquillo rev2 cooler]
ASrock 870 Extreme3
8 GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX memory
GTX 760 MSI
CM GX550w PSU

Now my budget is around 340 euro's, which at AMD would get me:
FX 8320 + m5a97 evo r2 + hyper 212 evo and a kingston 120gb SSD.
and at Intel:
a 4670k and a z87 board about same cost

I'm really edging towards the AMD build cause the SSD will help me load the maps in BF4 so much faster.

Maybe some of you guys run on a similar setup and can give me some advice thanks a lot.

Bf4 utilises all the threads and especially with an aftermarket cooler you should be able to give it a small overclock and an ssd.
My vote for amd

Yeah it looks like AMD, SSD is definetly a must.
As it's for BF4 I would go 8320 or 4770k as it takes advantage of the threads/cores. Obviously the 4770k is way over budget and no SSD so definetly AMD.

This is why the AMD cpus are now worth buying over the Intels. Because it leaves cash to make the rig faster elsewhere, giving you a much more rounded system.

Unless, like me you run emulators more than PC games, in which case AMD still suck donkey balls.

That 30-40% extra IPC can make all the difference between a smooth 60fps or a stuttering, jerky 40-50fps.

It's why I'm so annoyed at no desktop Steamroller, I was hoping they would give almost comparable performance to the old Intel 2500k..

They're only worth buying as far as I'm concerned, if you have to make sacrifices to go Intel, because then there's no point, which is the OP's case.

Or not a build you need performance for, so there's no difference.

All comes down to your budget and what you're willing to spend for performance.

I still think the people who got the best deal are those on launch day 1155 systems (Well, with the B3 boards) on 2500k's and 2600k's overclocked.

Bangs head against wall. People keep forgetting the most important part.

To run an FX cpu and get performance out of it, you need to run Win 8.1. Especially for BF4.

And even then, the games probably need the DX cpu optimisations found in Dx11.2.

I on the other hand am running my stock 3570k and playing BF4 at max settings at 1920x1200 res no problem.

Lots of people here saying to go for the SSD - is that purely for the quicker loading times or is there something I'm missing?
