I'm looking at building a spare PC as a media server/twitch streaming PC. I'll be getting a few bits from the MM as a result, as I've no need for brand new things but I was wondering, is maybe going AMD here the better option for budget/CPU processing.

There is no chance the PC will be used as any kind of dedicated gaming machine, it'll be a pure work horse but it needs to be able to cope with stream encoding to twitch aswell as encoding to local devices from plex or any other media server.

I think an i5 2500k would be fine but perhaps there is something better AMD for this?

Pref needs to have onboard video so there is no need for a gpu.

Ideas? :)

If a cheap FX8 machine comes up you could do a lot worse, an 8320 will beat a 2500K clock for clock.

No iGPU though so that will probably swing it, and it'll use a bit more power.

Tbh you probably won't be able to be too picky with the SH market.
