cpu for htpc

building htpc for my bro based on amd 780g chipset and planning to use 4400+ cpu tho would like to know if i could use a cheaper amd cpu without too much performance drop?
will be using 400w psu that comes with case (cant link as its from competitor) so want to stick to built in gpu and dont think any intel mobo can match this one.
or is there intel way that could be had for same money?

no overclocking will be done on this

cheers will have a look for x2 3800+
it wont be realy used for hd at least for a while anyway, he wants to buy dvd recorder but i dont realy see a point since he only has freeview and for not much more than decent dvd recorder we can build a htpc with freeview card and replace their 6 years old laptop at the same time
