Hi.
Im planning on building a small server for the sole use of streaming media to my PS3.
The software i plan to use is called 'PS3 Media Server', and according to their site, a P4 2.4Ghz should be enough to do on-the-fly encoding of 1080p material.

Based on that, would a Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2200 be quick enough to do the job?

Im unsure of the architecture of the E2200, if its a cutdown 'core' or a 'PentiumD' based chip.

Thoughts and advice?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Do you own the Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2200 already or is that the chip you selected for purchase?
Selected for purchase.
Going for as cheap as possible.
Willing to look at AMD, but its gotta be a MATX board that uses DDR2...

According to the OCUK page:
Core2-based CPU

Should burn through the encoding then shouldnt it?

Selected for purchase.

Ok, scrap the E2200 as its now been trumped by the newer Intel® Pentium® Dual Core E6300 which costs approx the same but is better chip in every way (Faster MHz, Faster FSB, More Cache, Wolfdale Core, Intel VT etc) If you can pick up a cheaper/used E2200 then fair enough but if buying new the E6300 is what you want!
