CPU for Recording game footage

Don't use fraps. Try using XFIRE video recording in game, I found my FPS was a lot higher when recording.

Go to Tools > Options > Set your keybinding to whatever key you want, make sure the Full-Size box is ticked, and sound recording is ticked! Then whatever other options you want!

I'd suggest giving playclaw (www.playclaw.com) a try. It makes use of extra threads, and doesn't slow games down the way FRAPS does in my experience.

The most important thing you can do though is make sure your recording sotware is recording to a drive that isn't being used - so not your OS drive, and not the drive your games are on if thats different.

It's been suggested that you get an SSD for that - I expect that will make a bigger difference than improving your CPU/board which should be good enough for recording game videos.

Well with my 650w PSU and i'm getting another 6950 I'm on the edge with power anyway so I don't think an SSD is a good move could have problems powering it all .

Wait a minute! Are you sure that it's not just Fraps- it normally caps the recording framerate at 60FPS for performance and storage reasons I believe.

Well I'm getting 60 fps+ without recording switch to recording mode 30-60 fps so no it's something I was wondering if an SSD will make the game run at 60 fps while recording.

Last time I used Fraps, it did rate limit the videos to 30fps.

I've always found fraps a bit rubbish tbh, a 30second video seemed to be about 10fps and over a gb in size :S

recorded bf3 yesterday and made video 60fps while recording most of time it only dropped to about 55 lowest . set it up right and its fine.

you can choose fps to set it to and other options. in free version you are limited to 30 secs recording though and a couple of other options.

i HAVE A 1090T 8GB RAM AND 5870 . I can record at max settings in fraps np . game and o/s on sdd and fraps on a 500gb sata .. no slwodown at all and works perfect . I would link the vid but i cant at work but if you search my user name you can see it in the bf3 thread
