Im having a look at a custom build for a server as i am finding the n40L i have not up to the task CPU wise

It cant stream 1080p media properly even over wireless N when asked to compress these on the fly
I also want to use it to compress blu ray mkvs, i thought about doing this on the desktop but this would mean the desktop would need to be on solely for this task..i havent dismissed this but just dont see this as the most efficient way

i havent really looked at cpus since early sandy

if this goes ahead im looking for a cpu that clocks down very well, uses very little power when idle but can perform when required..ie a transcode
obviously i do not want to break the bank otherwise i may as well just use the desktop

opinions?

If you are looking at under £100,the AMD A8 and A10 APUs have very low idle power consumption, and tend to better than a IB Core i3 for CPU only video encoding.

The IB Core i3 does have Quick Sync, which is very quick but comes at the expense of quality.
