CPU for Video Editing

Been asked to build a system for a mate
How are the conroe chips for Video editing, im fine with all the other components but never used conroe.

Also is pinnacle still the best video editing softwear for £60ish.

Sony vegas user also, carn't go wrong with it, cut down version is about £60 now. Great value

Is it optimised for duel core? What is cut down by the way.
