hi all
just built a new machine with
I7 950 cpu
gigabyte x58aud3r mb
16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz
hd5850 gpu
750w psu

anyway its all built and running however the cpu temp @
core1 45c
core2 41c
core3 46c
core4 39c

all currently doing is running windows and internet explorer open
is this running too hot? i didnt buy best cooler but not sure if this ok or too hot?

also running msi afterburner the gpu is at 52c this also to hot?? (min 42 max 53) in msi afterburner i also set fan from auto to(50) to see if that help cool it down dropped to about 40c whats safe temp for GPU?

Would the type of connection into the graphics card make a difference to idle temps though ?....if i have one of my two monitors via HDMI i get idle temps of around 46c...but taking away the HDMI and using the two monitors via VGA to DVI i get idle temps of about 33c

5850 should idle a bit lower. Is your case airflow good? GPU temps can rely on good intake airflow.

Would help to know:

  1. What case you have, what fans.
  2. What brand GPU you have, and what cooler.
  3. What CPU cooler you have, and what clocks.

Also why did you just build with an i7 950? Was it cheap to build? Just curious, sorry if I'm being too nosey. Can understand if you got the cpu cheap. 5850 is a nice card. I put one with a Q6600 in a friends build. :)

HI Brian
the case is a CIT MARS LED,
the card is ATI Radeon HD5850

nothing is overclocked at all
yeah the reason i did the build myself if its for my dads birthday so i wanted to build myself to make it a bit more personal.. also got some bits cheap e.g cpu £40, card £70 mb £80 case £30 maybe it been cheaper to buy prebuild but least this way all parts of customised to what i (he) wanted
