I was set on getting an i5-2500k/C45 for about £275 but now im thinking it would be more of an upgrade to go i5-760 (£120) keep my current mobo (GA-H55M-UD2H) and upgrade my graphics card to an 5870 (£145) for £265. Prices in brackets are cheapest i've found and are new.

I'm not a gamer but if i was the i5-760 and the better gfx card would be the route i would choose - 'if' you couldn't afford to upgrade the 2500k with a better gfx card in the near furure.

I think you will get more benefit from a 4 core chip coupled with a better gfx card rather than just the latest 4 core with an aging 5830 - BUT...

...havng said that - the 2500K is great value for performance (clocking potential), and if you think you may be able to upgrade your gfx card later on, using the 2500k, in the near future then the 2500K would the upgrade to consider...

Depends on future funds...

I game at 1680x1050 btw and just want to be able to play BF3 on high or med/high and then ill be a happy bunny :)

You can have a GTX 560 for ~£150 -link (or the 5870) - this coupled with your i 760 at £120 would be a very tidy upgrade for £270 for 1680x1050 gaming.

Cheers for the advice Plec. I've also seen a few people saying an H55 mobo wont overclock an 760 well.
