posted quite a while back with regards my p4 3.4 prescott and unbelievable idle temps

current temp atm is..... 66c @ idle

thats with side off case and case out in the open

I had this issue before but temps then were hitting 80c @ idle but replaced the cooler with a thermaltake copper one, temps dropped to mid 30's idle = ok

now they are making gaming impossible as I am certain its causing the cpu to throttle due to high load/temp

monitor temp using both bios and everest

how the hell can i drop these temps, would cleaning cpu/cooler, apply as5 and a case fan at rear make any diff?

would a dual fan psu help? current one came with pc and whilst its not the most powerful system runs ok with a x800xt 1gb ddr, 250gb sata, dvdr/w and dvd rom inside

got a bit of cash coming but dont want to upgrade if i can get away with it but atm I cant really do a lot with this pile of silicon crap :(

I am better than Gibbo ;)

I am guessing it could be the contact, I have to say it was stable for a while but seems to progressivley get worse after a few months, same happened with last cooler, wonder if the actual cooler retention thingy is at fault

hmmmm

will try and reseat the cooler, fan is fine, noisy as hell at 6000rpm tho :D

seems it was a culmination of 2 things...

about 2 mm of dust encrusted between cooler and fan, a quick hoover and clean with an old toothbrush

bought some new paste (akasa silver stuff, not as5 but all i could get local)

put case fan in rear blowing air out

now my cpu idles at 38-40 and after an hour gaming only goes to 48-50

I have also been able to set my fan control on cooler to half speed so its fairly quiet now aswell :)
