cpu heatsink and fan position?

Recently put a new build together (see spec) and used a coolermaster hyper TX to cool the cpu which has a spoiler type attachment at the rear of the heatsink to push air down onto the mobo. I positioned it so that the fan was pointing toward the front of the case and the spoiler thing facing the rear where the 120mm case fan sucks everything out through the back.

I was thinking that as the P5NE seems to struggle with northbridge temps, would it be worth reseating the heatsink and fan so that the fan points upwards towards the psu and the spoiler thing can then push air down onto the northbridge?

Can't work out whether this would help in any way or just disrupt the current seemingly logical airflow through the case.

Well assuming it isn't a massive job to turn it why not give it a go? Test your system now for load temps on the CPU and NB. Next move the HSF round and run your system for a bit under load and compare the new temps.

It is the only real way you'll be sure

Still not convinced I've found an accurate temp monitor. TAT doesn't work and coretemp seems to run high and wavers around a lot. The Asus one that comes with the board gives temps about 8 degrees cooler than Coretemp and I would imagine that a monitor designed specifically for the board would be more accurate than a one-for-all solution though it doesn't seem to record my cpu voltage properly.

I guess though that a fall in temps using any tool is still a fall.....
