I don't understand why my CPU is not working. I have just bought a new board, a new CPU and the darn thing doesn't work. I have tested the heatsink on another board and it works, tested my memory, PSU on another machine and they power everything up.

I have just connected a normal fan to the CPU fan pins and its not blowing. Is the motherboard dead? What would stop the CPU fan from blowing? It doesn't seem to work on my ASUS P5W DH Deluxe and now my Gigabyte DQ6... do I need something extra? Please, please HELP!

Thanks, Pikkon

Really annoyed at the moment as I have literally gone and spent a lot and seems to be doing nothing. Bought new CPU and motherboard but still not working.

The CPU pins may have shorted out.

Try attaching the HSF to an adaptor if you have one and plug it into a spare molex on the PSU.

You can use that method but loose out on being able to use the Bios to control the speed of the fan.

I tried the very same heatsink on another machine/motherboard and it worked fine... could it have just died like that moving from house to another? Motherboard can't be as it only arrived today from OcUK and processor was only opened a few days ago to be tested on my previous mobo but I am getting no POST.

I have placed the heatsink fan connector on the Northbridge connector on the mobo but still no POST beep.

I have tested my PSU on an older motherboard would this make a difference as in to whether its working? As there is only an extra 4 or so pins on an ATX 2.0 PSU.

The HSF may not be starting up as there is not enough temperature to spin the fan.
Are there any beeps through the internal speaker? If so, what are they?
You could try stripping it all back down and rebuilding.
The motherboard could be shorting out. Is it sitting correctly on the little brass risers?

What are the implications of those brass risers if they were not present? I will look to check if it is but will that cause the heatsink to not spin?

It will fry the board if the risers are not fitted. You may be lucky and it hasn't.

It shorts the board as the back of the mobo is touching the backplate of the case panel.

Hi guys thanks for the help I am sending the mobo and CPU back and waiting for a new one which I hope will solve the problem *may have fried* :(
