I am looking at reducing my CPU temps on my Oc i5 4670k haswell - its running at 4.2Ghz on a ROG motherboard, with 2 sticks of Hyper x beast RAM and my current cooler is a cheap £12 Alpenföhn Civetta CPU Cooler with supplied fan.

My idle temp is around 45 and gaming can and has hit 73 degrees - I wanted your thoughts on a better heat sink, but also one thats going to deal with RAM clearence issues due to the RAM being rather tall :p

Are these temps ok for the cooler i have, can i get better with a diffrent heat sink on a budget of say £40 ? if so what would you reccomend ?

I have been looking at this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-003-BQ&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2340 but dont know if i will see a good enough drop in temps with this in place.

Thoughts Please :D

Oh my case is an older coolermaster cosmos 1000 - big tall shiny silver thing :)

Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140. Top down coolers aren't that great. They are only useful if space is a limitation which it won't be in your case.

What Helios said.
The problem with top down coolers is keeping the heated cooler exhaust from mixing with cool air going into cooler. With a tower cooler cool air flows in the front and out the back, than out the back exhaust. Top down cooler flows from side to motherboard and spread heated air everywhere.
As Helios said the True Spirit 140 for £34.99 is a very capable cooler at a very good price. The TY-140 or TY-147 black/white fans are same except for colour. True Spirit 140 B/W has newer fan clip design.

Tbh 73.c is not bad for a haswell and well within limits. I have used a BeQuite Dark Rock Pro 2 on my 4670k and its a great cooler and works as well as D14's I have had in the past. Only downside is it is massive but certainly does the job.

What are the limits for a haswell if 73.c is well within limits ?
