CPU heatsink with no fan?

Is anyone using that ^ Ninja with a dual core X2 3800? If so would be interested to know what type of temps you get.

With my X2 4200+ overclocked to 2.75GHz I'm getting 38 idle and 52 deg under 100% load in these warm times :) Only recently installed it so not sure what the temps would be @stock with normal UK temps but it does seem to do the job admirably with no fan ;)

Bet Conroe will run fanless on one of those heatsinks no problem. Even the 2.9 XE will only be using 85W, thats comparable to an old P4 Northwood.

I get higher temps then that WITH a fan in this hot weather! :/

Are you using the Scythe Ninja Plus Heatpipe CPU Cooler, because im looking for something to quieten my PC down abit, might get this if it can do the job :)

the scythe ninja plus comes WITH a fan. it is also only of any use without a fan for bottom end cpu's. you cant run a modern cpu fanless

With decent case airflow, it is perfectly possible to run at least just about all AMD CPUs fanlessly with this heatsink. Current Intel processors, probably not, but Conroe should be fine.

Yes that's what I'm using passive in an Antec p180 with plenty of ventilation. I did try using the fan but it was a tight squeeze and only lowered my temps by 1-2 deg so have the fan cooling me hd's now ;)
I have one 12" fan at the front sucking air in and one at the back and top sucking air out of the case so pleanty of airflow to cool the heatsink without attaching the fan supplied. My PC is still pretty loud though as I have an X1800XT but I'm toying with the idea of getting a GPU cooler
