Hi all,

I'm about to engage in my 4 yearly new PC purchase. This time around I'm looking for something CPU heavy with a high single-core clock speed (OC). GPU needs to be passable to play upcoming AAA (Cyberpunk etc.), but doesn't need to be running on Ultra and 90% of the time it won't be breaking a sweat in the other games I play.

Games I play:
Dwarf Fortress
Kerbal Space Program with RO/RP1
X3 with Litcube and Mayhem
etc etc.

So CPU heavy games which are POORLY OPTIMISED for multi-threading.

Here is my attempt at a build:

CPU - I5 9600K (I3 9350 KF has also been suggested, but I'm hesitant to trade off SUCH a lot of multi-core processing - and also I'm unsure that you can actually get that I3 to clock higher than the I5 even though the base clock starts higher).
Board - No idea, but something like a MSI - Z390-A PRO ATX LGA1151?
Memory - G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 3600 C17 2x8GB (Not sure if there's a better choice at $160 price range)
GPU - Nvidia 2060 6GB (Only needs to be good enough to 60fps AAA games for 3-4 years on med-high settings, nothing more).
SSD - SAMSUNG 970 Pro 512GB - speed is everything.
Cooling - Something effective which fits... loudness not an issue.
Monitor - 1080p TN 24' standard. Later down the line I'll likely buy a 1440p IPS 27-31'.
Case - Any ATX mid. Doesn't need to have millions of bays or designer labels. 1. Easy fit. 2. Easy Access. That's it.
PSU - 500-600w from respected brand. Don't care about efficiency but at least Bronze rated.

Let me know thoughts,

Cheers,

R

Yes, you're right. I'm loathed to go AMD as I had bad experiences, but that was over a decade ago... Will keep an eye on benchmarks as they come out.

A price drop in Intel chips could also be nice.
