Morning,

After buying myself a AMD Athlon San Diego 3700+, i decided to install the processor yesterday after i was told i didnt need to do anything other than take the old one out and put this one in. Now my old processor was a Winchester 3200+ running on the Asus A8V Deluxe absolutely fine, took it out put this one in an drebooted to get this message:

*****UNKNOWN PROCESSOR REVISION*****

The processor installed in your system are of unknown revision, please contact your bios vendor for appropriate updates.

FATAL ERROR, SYSTEM HALTED

So how am i going to get round this i thought, so i reset the bios and still the same error. Is is a bios update and if so how do i do it please? i cannot get into the bios or nothing?

Please help......
Regards,
Kris

Hence why you need to keep stuff (e.g. BIOS) updated. Hope you still have the 3200+? Get the latest BIOS here ...
A8V Deluxe BIOS 1017
Using the 1018.001 Beta (here) myself with no issues

so i need to put my old cpu back in, awwww means i need to get some Thermal interface stuff then yeah?

If i pop to PC World tonight and pick up some of the coolmaster TI will that be good enough? How do i go about applying it please? (Never done it before  )

Thanks
KRis

Just spread it about as thin and even as you can on the point of contact with the heatsink, I find a bit of credit card type plastic chopped to the right size is pretty sweet, nail varnish remover or isopropyl achohol and some cotton buds is what you want for removing the sticky stuff.

Thanks, i bought some of the Akasa TIM cleaner which was quite good at getting the gunk off...ive just also bought the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro to put on the 3700+ once i got it working!

So do i put the thermal interface on the heatsink or the processor?

Thanks for your help all,

Cheers
Kris

I usually just stick a tiny blob of the TIM stuff in the middle of the CPU then fit the HSF. I use Arctic Silver 5 and this is the application method AS tell you to use.

However, since the 3200 is only going to be fitted for the amount of time it takes to flash your BIOS how well you apply it isn't THAT important.

When you come to fit the 3700 and AC Freezer, leave the gunge thats on the Freezer as it is MX-1 and some of the best TIM you can get.
